Subject:  How I can find the WWPN and WWNN of QLA2340 HBA

    Hi all,

I want to find the WWPN and WWNN of the QLA2340 HBA card installed on my machine?
During booting the machine by getting into the Fastutil i found adapter port name. Is it a WWNN or WWPN ? If so how can I find that the other one.

    Each HBA has a unique WWN. 
Each port has a unique WWPN.
Fast!UTIL > Host Adapter Settings is the WWPN (unique to the port).

A great learning source is the good old wikipedia

    Hi frederick,

Thanks, i surfed this page. FYI, I am quoting the statement from wikipedia

Each HBA has a unique World Wide Name(WWN), which is similar to an Ethernet MAC addressin that it uses an Organizationally Unique Identifier(OUI) assigned by the IEEE. However, WWNs are longer (8 bytes). There are two types of WWNs on a HBA; a node WWN, which is shared by all ports on a host bus adapter, and a port WWN, which is unique to each port.

so if a HBA card is having two ports in it, then it will be having same WWNN and different WWPN.
And I also browsed some docs regarding the port binding and switch binding.

If we are going for port binding we have to use the WWPN but if we are going for the switch binding then we have to use the WWNN. So how I can find the WWNN in a HBA card and what is the significance of the WWNN and WWPN?





위 내용에 의하면

HBA카드에는 각각 유일한 WWNN이 존재하고
하나의 HBA카드안에 포트마다 각각 유일한 WWPN이 존재한다.

2포트짜리 HBA카드가 있다면

포트마다 WWNN은 같지만 WWPN은 다르다는 말이 된다.
