Hot Out Here: Japan's June Heat Breaks Records
It has been warm in Japan. In fact, this June was the hottest the country has ever had, according to the Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The JMA said the average temperature in June was 2.43 degrees higher than in an average year.
The previous record for June was in 2020, when the temperature was 1.43 degrees above average.
Japan began collecting weather data in 1898, and the month of June has never been hotter in all that time.
The high temperatures have been blamed on a high-pressure system in the Pacific and a change in wind direction.
But experts in Japan have also said this couldn't have happened without human-caused climate change.
The second half of June was especially hot, with parts of the country experiencing temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius and above over a number of days.
In the later part of the month, more than 8,600 people were taken to hospital by ambulance with heat-related illnesses. Almost 900 of these cases were in Tokyo.
The JMA said temperature records for June were broken at 196 of its 914 monitoring stations in Japan.
The weather didn't change at the start of July, either. At 120 locations, the temperature got to at least 35 degrees Celsius on July 1.
The government has warned people to take care in the warm weather.
The summers of 2023 and 2024 were the hottest in Japan's history. The temperatures may not get to the same levels this year, but experts still expect plenty of warm weather.

Actually Japan is famous of hotter weather than Korea.
People said Japan has oceanic climate and more humidity.
However as I asked A.I. the data of temperature and humidity of Deajeon and Tokyo, To my surprise they were not that different.
Tokyo had 27 Celcius of temperature and 77% of humidity while Daejeon had 26 Celcius and 76%.
I didn't heard people in Deajeon had heat stroke while more than 8,000 people were taken to hopital with their heat stroke.
Japanese tends to not to turn on the A.C. despite of terrible weather. They don't believe the cool wind from A.C. is good for health and to use traditional fan is natural.
That's why government of Japan recommends people to turn on the A.C. and drink water as many as possible. A lot of people with heat stroke didn't do that though.
According to Japan's data, more than 50% people had heat stroke when they were indoor and outdoor. They had just endured the heat without A.C. and drinking water.
Koreans like A.C. so much that when I walk after lunch, I have to avoid hot air from outdoor unit. There are so many outdoor units when I walk along behind buildings.
Thanks for having A.C. in my car, office and home. A.C.s are beyond compare especially in hot summer.
